Scent of a Marketing Budget
December 11, 2006

By A.E. Smith
As any good pie-baking real estate agent can tell you, a tempting smell is a great way to get people in the door. Companies looking to lure customers in by their noses should check out Bakersfield, Calif.–based ScentAndrea, a "multisensory communications vendor" that uses scent in marketing campaigns. The company has worked with such big names as Procter & Gamble, Nabisco and Goodyear, and its scent-delivery systems are already wafting through delis, kiosks, gas stations and other businesses that profit from impulse buys, including Wal-Mart. ScentAndrea's scent list includes such appetizing aromas as Baking Cinnamon Buns, Juicy Peach and Flame-broiled BBQ as well as less appealing odors like Sulpherous Volcano and Burning Rubber.
